Dr. Koji Sakamoto is Lecturer of Department of Pulmonary Medicine, at Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine. Koji received his MD from the Nagoya University, Japan, and completed a residency in Internal Medicine and received ILD training at Tosei General Hospital, one of the leading ILD centers in the nation, under the supervision of Dr. Yasuhiro Kondo. After the basic research training for his PhD in Nagoya University, he received postdoctoral training on functional genomics in Naftali Kaminski's laboratory at Yale University. Koji's research interests involve applying multimodalities including genomics, gene-modified animal models, and cell biology to elucidate basic mechanisms and improve diagnosis and treatment of ILDs. Koji also plays a leading role in patients care in Nagoya University Hospital as an attending physician as well as the principal investigator for multiple clinical trials in ILDs. In REMAP-ILD he will serve as the secretariat of the Japan Regional Committee.
ILD is a disease with a diverse course and many unresolved problems. There is a growing awareness of this problematic condition as a cause of chronic respiratory failure and death also in Japan. As a doctor involved in the practice of ILD patient care, I am so excited to participate in REMAP-ILD as an opportunity to share the problem with leaders around the world and work together to bring health and peace of mind to patients affected by ILD as soon as possible.
